Under arrest?
The first 24 hours decide the case.
The custody clock starts the moment you arrive at the police station. What is said in the first interview is read out to a jury two years later. This is what the clock looks like, and where we come in.

Arrest and booking in
You ask for your own solicitor by name. Call us before the interview, not after it — we attend, free of charge to you.

Charge, bail or release
Most detention ends here. We see the disclosure, advise on comment or no comment, and make written representations against charge.

Superintendent's extension
In indictable cases detention can be extended. We test the grounds and put your case for release on the record.

Magistrates' warrant
The longest a court can authorise before charge. By this stage a defence strategy should already be running, not starting.
Terrorism cases run on a separate and longer clock. Detention under the Terrorism Act 2000 can be authorised for up to 14 days by a judge — if you or a family member has been detained, call us immediately.
